Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between brake pads and brake shoes?

Brake pads are used in disc brake systems, where the brake caliper presses the pad against the brake rotor to slow the vehicle. Brake shoes are used with drum brakes, where the shoe presses outward against the inside of a brake drum, applying friction and hence the braking force. Brake pads are very common on modern trucks, however a large number of both trucks and trailers continue to use brake shoes and drums, with these by far the most common braking application in use in rural and regional areas due to the ease and lower cost of maintenance.

Do you supply trailer brake pads and brake shoes?

Yes, Tranzmile supplies trailer brake pads, trailer brake shoes and related braking parts for a wide range of trailer applications. We can help with parts for commercial trailers, caravans, box trailers and other towing setups.

When should brake pad replacement be carried out?

Brake pad replacement should be carried out when pads are worn, damaged, contaminated or no longer performing correctly. Warning signs can include reduced braking performance, noise, vibration in your brake pedal or increased stopping distance. If you’re unsure, a qualified mechanic or workshop should inspect the braking system. Brake pads will have set minimum thicknesses specified by the manufacturer so regular inspection and measurement must be carried out, with pads replaced once they approach the prescribed minimum thinkness.

Do you stock truck and trailer brake drum parts?

Yes, we can supply both truck and trailer brake drum parts and other drum brake components for heavy vehicle applications. Our drums are industry leading with each balanced and hardened to ensure they perform in Australia’s rugged conditions. Our parts interpreters can help you find the right OEM or aftermarket option for your truck or your trailer.
