The STEMCO Axle Nut Pro-Torq Steer Spindle Nu 4484836 is a Pro-Torq unitised spindle nut assembly used to secure steer axle wheel hubs on heavy-duty trucks and trailers. It uses a 1-1/2 in-12 thread and a six-point 2-1/2 in hex, allowing installation with a standard 2-1/2 in 6-point spindle nut socket. The nut works with outer bearing cup and cone set 3782 / 3720 and is specified for 12,000 lb Meritor and Navistar steer axle applications, as well as Dana Spicer, Eaton, Fruehauf and Standard Forge axles. The Pro-Torq design combines the nut with a spring steel keeper to lock the assembly at any position on the spindle while maintaining correct wheel bearing preload. Highly visible adjustment marks assist with setting back-off during installation, and the design engages more spindle threads than conventional nuts to hold bearings securely under high loads. A matching replacement keeper, part number 450-4836, is available for service.
