Relay valves use a small pilot signal from the foot valve or control valve to rapidly deliver large volumes of air to the brake chambers, reducing brake lag on long wheelbase vehicles and trailers. The load sensing variant modulates brake pressure in proportion to axle load, improving brake balance between laden and unladen conditions.
